More Information – Mariposa County Traffic Schools

A Courtesy Notice will be issued to you on the address mentioned in the citation about 10 days after the citation was issued. The back of the courtesy notice will help you understand the options you can choose from in order to resolve the traffic infraction ticket. Clearing the citation is your responsibility even if you do not receive the courtesy notice before the due date.

The Mariposa Traffic Division offers a variety of methods by which you can make the bail payment. You can make the payment in person or through the mail in the form of a check, money order, or cashier's check. Cash payments are only accepted in person. As of right now, the court does not accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover card, or debit card payments for traffic fines and fees but this is slated to change soon.

Traffic schools are an option offered to those who qualify for it. The courtesy notice will mention if you qualify. These are the eligibility criteria that need to be met in order to qualify:

  • You have not attended traffic school in the past 18 months, counted from violation date to violation date.
  • The infraction violation that you were cited with should have at least 1 point count as per the DMV.
  • Any proof of correction will need to be submitted before you request traffic school.

If you are eligible and wish to apply, you will have to pay the bail amount in full before the due date. In addition, you will be required to pay an additional $74 as an administrative fee. You can make these payments in person or via mail. The traffic school you choose from the DMV approved list will charge you an additional attendance fee. You will have 60 days to complete the course and submit the course completion certificate to the DMV.
